Revenue model

BillWise is free for all WA households. We generate revenue through a single, flat referral fee of $30 inc GST per lead ($27.27 ex GST), paid by the installer when a homeowner requests a quote through our platform. This fee is paid by the installer, not by you — it is never added to your quote, and you pay exactly the same price you would by approaching the installer directly.

Critically, we're paid whether or not you go ahead with an installer — so our recommendations are never skewed by who pays us. The fee is a flat $30 for every installer in our network, so no one can pay to rank higher or be recommended more often.

What we do NOT do:

We do not accept commissions or kickbacks from any product manufacturer
We do not prioritise installers based on referral fees — all matched installers meet the same vetting criteria
We do not sell your personal data to third parties
We do not inflate savings estimates to encourage purchases
We do not accept sponsored placements in our comparison tools or recommendations

Data sources

All calculations use publicly available, official data:

Electricity tariffs: Synergy published rates (A1, Midday Saver, EV Add-On), updated when Synergy announces changes (most recent: 1 July 2025)
Export rates: DEBS and REBS rates as published by Synergy
Solar data: Bureau of Meteorology solar irradiance data for Perth metro and WA regions
Product data: Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved product lists for solar panels and batteries
STC prices: Clean Energy Regulator STC clearing house spot prices
Rebates: WA Government Energy Assistance Payment, Dependent Child Rebate, Air Conditioning Rebate rates
WA Battery Scheme: Synergy published per-kWh rebate rates and eligibility criteria

We check for rate changes quarterly and update our data within 7 days of any announced change. If you notice outdated information, please let us know.

Installer selection

Installers on the BillWise platform must meet the following criteria relevant to the work they perform:

For solar and battery work: current SAA (Solar Accreditation Australia) accreditation for solar design and/or installation
Valid Australian Business Number (ABN) with active registration
Minimum $10 million public liability insurance
Registered to operate in Western Australia
Compliance with Australian Consumer Law warranty requirements

We verify these credentials during registration and periodically re-check. SAA accreditation applies to solar and battery work; for other electrification work — such as EV chargers, heat pumps, or hot-water systems — we do not verify a trade-specific accreditation, so we recommend confirming the installer holds the relevant licence for that work. We do not guarantee the quality of any installer's work. We encourage you to check reviews, request references, and compare multiple quotes before making a decision.

Independence

BillWise is an independent platform. We are not affiliated with Synergy, Western Power, the WA Government, the Clean Energy Council, or any solar/battery manufacturer. Our recommendations are based solely on your inputs and published data — not on commercial relationships.

Accuracy disclaimer

While we strive for accuracy, all savings estimates, payback calculations, and recommendations are indicative only. Actual results depend on your specific circumstances including:

Roof orientation, angle, and shading
Actual electricity usage patterns
Installer pricing (which varies)
Weather variability year to year
Future tariff and rebate changes
Equipment degradation over time
