The battery itself
Hardware pricing mostly tracks capacity — think in dollars per kilowatt-hour of usable storage, because that's the unit doing the work. Chemistry, brand and warranty terms move the per-kWh figure; capacity moves the total.
The system around it
The same battery needs an inverter to run it — a hybrid replacing or joining your solar inverter — plus switchboard work, cabling, mounting and the installer's time. This is the layer that surprises people.
The site itself
Distance from switchboard to battery location, phase of your supply, age of the board, shade over the preferred mounting spot — small line items individually, real money together.
Layer two is why two quotes for the identical battery can honestly differ by thousands. Whether your existing setup carries some of that load, or all of it has to be built, changes the number — neither installer is cheating; they're quoting different systems.
Two schemes stack on a qualifying WA system
